The Truth About Instagram
Instagram is, by far, my favorite form of social media. Not only do I get to share pretty photographs from my day, I have the opportunity to "micro blog" as well. It doesn't get much better than that!
One of the things that I really love about Instagram actually has nothing to do with the app itself, but more so the situations I get myself into trying to get the "perfect" Instagram photo. I know I'm not the only one! Social media is a magical place where we can all pick and choose what side of ourselves that we show to the world. Why wouldn't we want to show our best side? If that means that I have to stand on a table or move a few things around on my dinner table to get the perfect shot then, hey! I'm all for it!
I thought it'd be fun to share some of my most popular Instagram photos and let you in on the stories behind them.
What it looks like is happening
Oh, look! I casually had my phone out and noticed that Max was looking right up at me while Sean is petting him. How sweet! Let me snap a photo!
What is actually happening
Sean and I were standing in his parent's backyard chatting with his mom and I was trying to get a decent photo of their new puppy as I had been for weeks. As adorable as Max may be, he is not the most cooperative dog in the world. I mean, come on. He's just a puppy! I took about 30 photos before Sean finally came over, kneeled down and tilted his head up towards my phone. I was complaining while taking this shot about how it totally looks forced, and yet it's one of my favorite photos on my feed to date!
What it looks like is happening
I'm on vacation and my hair just naturally curls like this and we're going out to dinner so I thought I'd take a photo really quick to show everyone how happy I am!
What is actually happening
I walked around our floor where our condo was for about 5 minutes trying to find the perfect lighting. This particular wall was right by the elevator, beside an open window where people were watching me and in front of a series of balconies where my audience grew by about 15 people. Glamorous, right? #noshame
What it looks like is happening
I'm playing putt-putt and I'm really good because my ball just landed like this! This is not staged. At all. Completely by chance that I am at this perfect angle! I rock.
What is actually happening
Believe it or not, this one started out as an outfit of the day in front of a pirate ship. I decided that I wanted a more "golf-y" shot and set my ball down so I could line it up perfectly with a stack of palettes. I went to snap the picture, looked through my photos, and realized I had lost my ball! It had rolled down a hill onto a different hole ... Ladies and gentleman, that is how it's done.
What it looks like is happening
I just bought a new tablet and I am just so excited! This photo was taken immediately after I walked out of the store. This is a naturally candid expression that was so perfectly captured of my absolute excitement.
What is actually happening
We went to Chick-Fil-A for dinner the night I got this because, well, Chick-Fil A ... And on our way out to the car I noticed a pretty white brick wall. So, in front of a drive thru full of people, I posed while Sean skillfully took a bunch of photos of me while I made multiple "I'm so excited" faces.
What it looks like is happening
I'm on my lunch break and looking out my back door with my sweet dog laying at my feet. It was totally by chance that he ended up looking up at me just when I took this photo! This is the life.
What is actually happening
I stood in this position by my back door (for the perfect natural lighting, of course) for about 5 minutes straight. I may or may not have been doing things like snapping my fingers, saying his name in every octave my voice can reach and/or shaking a box of Swedish Fish hoping it would get his attention. In case you were wondering, it was the super crazy high voice that got him to look up at me.
